During my time in college I worked as a Lifeguard, which afforded me many opportunities, including instructing a junior lifeguard class. In this class, I taught a wide range of skills to students ranging from deep water rescue to rescue breathing. In this role I found that my favorite days were the ones where I was able to design programming, which often included creating obstacle courses . I always loved creating obstacle courses because I was able to see the effort and determination that the kids (and me) possessed. It was empowering to watch these kids battle with a challenge and come through the other side both mentally and physically. This enthusiasm for hard work that I saw within each of my students along with instructing beside other dedicated instructors led me to pursue my teaching degree. After graduating I taught in middle and high school classroom settings, for 10 years until I finally found the wonderful world of strength and conditioning.

Being a Strength and Conditioning coach for over six years as allowed me to experience first hand clients breaking through their own barriers and – ,essentially taking on an “obstacle course” and winning. Whether it’s doing a pull up for the first time, setting a personal record on a deadlift, or finding a source of will and determination that they didn’t know they had, it was and has been inspirational

In short, I aspire to show that no matter the starting point, with hard work, persistence and guts, there is always a path to something greater.
